seem to have a purple coming from the loom onto the connecter plate at side of engine which does not seem to be connected to anything or go anywhere! any ideas what it is for?

That's a power (voltag

That's a power (voltage) wire that is used for other various horsepowers. The wiring harness is a universal one. Ignore it on your engine.
