Pullcord-making it work again.

Good day folks. You guys are so awesome that I decided to hit you up for advice again. I got a 40 hp mariner (40 E 6E9 s 104752), 1985 2 cylinder outboard. Basically a copy of those old Yamaha fm series.

I'm relying on the pull cord now because the cheapest electric starter motor I've seen is $250. So, good old fashion pull cord it is.

Anyhow, it snapped the other day, and I've often herd tell of older folks say you can rewind them. Is there any truth to this? If so, would someone mind giving me detailed step by step instructions as to how to do it with the utmost of lamen terms? Hey, I'm a fisherman for the last 15 years as a part time job, and to top it all off had a head injury almost 2 months ago (concussion, and the like). I figured I'd say that so you'd realize your dealing with someone with an adolescent intollect.

Anyhow, when I take the part off with the round thing off the flywheel with slanted teath thats hooked to this cable aparatus that dissalows it to be pulled over when she's in forward. THe first one is the actual assembly where the pull cord comes from, the second one is part that I unbolted it from (the fly wheel I guess).

Sorry for the dumb questions, i'm not the most literate person out there. I'm stuck and the wife will freak if I spend more money on this thing.

Thanks for any help.

Robby:confused:
