pull to prime switch adjustment

"I have a 1994 8hp long shaft

"I have a 1994 8hp long shaft merc that is new to me. While I can manage to get it started and running, there is no fast idle adjustment (which makes it a little difficult). If I turn the "pull to prime" switch, it rotates in and out, but nothing happens to the motor.

Is this something that can easily be adjusted, or should I take it in and have it looked at???"
 
take hood off motor pull prime

take hood off motor pull prime knob you will see black plasic arm moving a small metal rod with a phillips screw acting as a clamp tighten philips screw all the way this should give you more throttle adj. rotate knob watch how it works pull it in and out to prime push in and rotate knob clockwise to desired idle rpm
