Pros and cons stringer vs cobra

"Evening.....new to forum....As a rookie boater, I need to know the pros and cons of late 80's stringer vs. cobra....does the cobra hold more value.....whats the value of twin 175 OMC (351 fords) with stringer drives....1988 boat was damaged in 1992 ( 200 hrs.) was never back in water....everything is there

And the 175 was usually a 302 Ford and I don't think the ford engine was used on stringers much past 1978, so you'll need to find out what the boat is...probably a decade older than advertised. A boat with twin stringers would be a horror to try to sell. Twin Cobras wouldn't be much better market-wise, but at least the cutouts are Mercruiser friendly if someone wanted to repower."

Ford marine engines can also be a bit trickier to get parts for than Chev V8's..not as much aftermarket stuff for the fords... and that 175 HP V8...what a sad power to weight ratio for a boat. An OMC 3.8L V6 makes 185HP and weighed about 25% less.

Does this hold true for the 4.3 Short Blocks as well?

My dad gave me his Renken Cuddy when he upgraded last year and I'm curious as to the year of my motor because it started knocking on the way home from fireworks last week.

"Basically if you have a stringer, you're stuck with a stringer. If I had to choose one, I think I would go with the Cobra as its newer and I believe some of the Volvo parts are interchangeable. Also, as Hy Stat mentioned, they're more merc friendly for a conversion."
