"I took my lower unit apart to

"I took my lower unit apart to replace the seals as I had water in the unit. When i got the shaft out it had two ring grooves right where the seals would run, is this normal or is the shaft now scrap?
Any thought would be appreciated before I purchase a new one."

but rule of thumb i go buy is by feel
if you can really feel the grooves, yes new one"
 
I ended up shimming the seals

I ended up shimming the seals out abit to a new position on the shaft on the advice of a friend.
You couldn't feel the marks it was just visual.
