"I've seen a lot of discussion on propellors and just thought of a question.I have a 16 1/2 ft boat with a AQ145A and when a brought it it had a well worn 15 X 17 short hub.worn to around 14 1/4 x 17 .when I replace the prop throught insurance they supplied me with a 15 X 17 long hub.I put the prop on and noticed the difference straight away when in gear and idling forward. It seem that I was travelling faster (or moving across the waterfaster)(at idle that is.)my question is what would one exopect to be noticable between the short hub & long hub,Thanks"

"No difference at all if the blade geometry is identical. As I have said a few times before, the longer hub was introduced just to prevent the prop to spin on its hub with higher torque (power) applications. However, a larger diameter (even if it marginal) with the same propeller blade geometry and pitch will give a bit of extra thrust."

The worn prop probably made a diff in the performance. Now you have a new prop.......which makes a world of difference in boating. Keep it up.. And be happy.
If you wore it down to 14 then it was long overdue. Now you have a new one....Don't tear it up. You got it!!!!
