Suggestions on which prop size should I use running a 5.7 sbc in front of a volov penta 280 (1984) In a Bayliner Trophy FG model 2459. 3 or 4 blade to reach max WOT.

I have a 86' Bayliner 2450 running Volvo elephant ear prop 15x19, I have heard other props don't work as good for this setup.

If your boat, with that prop reaches a maximum wide open throttle rpm within the max rpm range specified for your engine, running under normal conditions, its correct prop. There aren't a lot of choices for 200 series drives, even less for the long hub ones.

For long hub options, go here and to PDF page #8.

NOTE: in spite of the verbiage, the long hub propellers are not intended for the 200 and 250.

As for the proper propeller for your boat/engine combination, you have no choice but to perform the WOT RPM test.
See your OEM WOT RPM specs and make that your target.
Be sure to load the boat as you normally would.

FYI....... a LH prop operates from the transmission's lower "driven" gear.
This places a tremendous up-lift force on the transmission's vertical shaft.
On a 280, this force is checked via a bronze split ring keeper.
If you have not examined your bronze keeper (during drive shaft bellows replacement), I would certainly suggest doing it.
Any signs of expansion means that it is time to replace it!
