"I'm in the market for a new prop. I'm currently running a 4 blade 12.75 x 17 Solas, my boat came with (I bought it used) a 3 blade 13 x 19 Quicksilver. Right now, I can't quote my actual WOT rpm but I'm going to take it out to the river tonight and get it, but my feeling is that I can go over the WOT by about 400 rpms. My Mariner manual says the full throttle range is 4750 - 5250. I'm fairly sure I can hit 5500 if I try and maybe a little more.
One more thing. I measured from the shaft to the bottom of the plate and it is 7.5 inches.
So here are the questions.
**Should I go with the largest diameter prop I can use and then adjust the pitch to get into upper end of the WOT range?
**Or should I go with a smaller diameter and get a larger pitch. to bring down the rpms and get into the range?
FYI, I'm a river boater, and often it's in swift water with a ravel bottom with the motor lifted as high as I can. I'm leaning to the largest diameter prop so I can keep as much prop in the water as I can when I lift it.
