"Ive have a 1973 22' reine

"Ive have a 1973 22' reinell with twin AQ145A's with 270 legs 2.15:1 gear ratio, id like to replace the props but i cant read the size stamped on the props. The only measurement i have is that there diameter of 14" and there manufactured by Johnson. It cruises at top speed of about 32 knots at 5200 rpm, is this right or can i do better?? Can i run a 14 X 23??

Thanks"

"The recommended full throttle

"The recommended full throttle RPM are 4500-5200. You can try to run a 14 x 23 and see how it works. You may experience a small increase in top speed, but you could also find that the hole shot is not as quick as now. If you can borrow the props to try them for free, you have nothing to loose.

Another option would be cupping and/or increasing the pitch of your current props about 2" (that should only be done if their factory set pitch has not been modified before). A prop shop can do that for you."

"It actually , Has a pretty go

"It actually , Has a pretty good hole shot even fully loaded with gear and fuel. I can actually achieve red line (5500 rpm) easily i have to watch it while accellerating so they dont take off but i usually run about 4800 at around 28 to 30 knots, i think my props now are 14 X 15 or 18 im not sure how to approximate pitch and they are cupped or tapered. So 14 X 23 should put me in the proper rpm range right? Does running twin engines affect what pitch you can run, because people running the same drivetrain on single engine boats seem to be running 14x15 to 17...this is all new to me so thanks for any help you can give me!!"

"Ryan, I estimated that you ha

"Ryan, I estimated that you had 14 x 21" installed, in which case a 14 x 23 would lower your RPM to about 4800. However, if you happen to have 14 x 19 and your WOT RPM are 5200, a 14 x 23 would be an increase of 4" in pitch and that would lower your maximum RPM to about 4400, which is below the minimum recommended by VP.

If you don't know the pitch of your props, a propeller shop can measure it for you."

"thanks! I apreciate the help,

"thanks! I apreciate the help, im can get the props fairly cheap, so i might take your advise and try them, just so i have a base to start from if they dont work im not out very much!"
