"I have one other question. What is the stock pitch on the propeller, and how do you measure that?"

"Charlie, that is a 1964 model

"Charlie, that is a 1964 model and not listed on the BRP (OMC) site. I have dug up some OEM numbers/Michigan Wheel cross match numbers.

Sorry, don't know what the motor originally came with. Your prop could be checked by a shop - you use a gauge to "find the pitch" - not a common tool that most would have laying around...

Anyhow, here's what I have (some/all may be discontinued)....

Diameter/ Pitch/ OEM#/ Michigan Wheel #

7-3/4D 6-1/2P n/a 012068
8-1/4D 8P 387334 012008
8-1/4D 9P 391534 012101

"Charlie, my 1971 9.5 Johnson

"Charlie, my 1971 9.5 Johnson manual spec's 8-1/8" dia. x 8" pitch 3 blade prop. Dont know if that means anything to you, but hope it helps. Maybe, these other gentlemen can say weather or not the age difference means anything. It's in the same model run, but dont know if they(Johnson/Evinrude), tinkered with the prop sizes from year to year."

"Charlie and Paul,

My 9.5 has the 8 1/4 X 8 1/2 prop which is for lighter loads. This prop will plane me (215 lbs)in a 12 foot 150 pound boat and some modest fishing gear. I move along at about 16 to 18 mph.

However, when my son who is 180 pounds joins me then we don't get up on plane though it is on the edge. I'm not sure how much different props make on these smaller motors but I thought that the 8 1/4 X 8 that is rated for all loads rather than light loads just might get us up on plane. Perhaps not, but it would be a move in the right direction.

Blessings!

Jim"

"Thanks for all the info guys.

"Thanks for all the info guys.
I talked to a guy at a boat shop and he also said it is a 8 1/2 x 8 1/4. I am now looking to find the best buy. Do you think I can find one on this site, because there has been so much help and info here, i would like to support it.

Thanks again."
