If the pitch of a prop goes up

If the pitch of a prop goes up does that add top end speed ?

Mercruiser 350 magnum 300 h.p.

Mercruiser 350 magnum 300 h.p. in a 20' boat?

how much do you plan to go up?

how much do you plan to go up? to me its trial and error. some say yea some say no i know there is a complicated math senario you can go by

"For the price of one of those

"For the price of one of those props I could hop up the engine ,intake/heads.. 700 for a prop?? thats retarded.. It currently runs in the mid 60's but I was trying to get over 70 because I am crazy like that and love the speed
"

No it is not retarded!!

mak

No it is not retarded!!

making speed on water is not like on the street!!!

you can spends thousands on motor mods and get very little "speed" improvements.

The proppeler is the key to speed as long as the power is there to drive it.
So in essence you need both.

Example: my friend has a 1987 20 ft checkmate with a STOCK 350 260 hp. Boat did 55 ish mph when he bought it in 1988.

He purchased a HILL prop brand new for $650.00

Boat hit 65 mph!!!!!!!

It was unbelievable!! I drove it so I have first hand experience. It was like it had passing gear.......

So if you think you can spend $700 on motor mods and do better than that by all means go ahead. BUT dont come crying to us when you have to shell out another $700 for a prop to take advantage of the "major" power increase you got for $700.00.

enough said!

"I am a street guy for the rec

"I am a street guy for the record, I have had a bunch of stangs.. I have had alot of boats but this is my first go-fast boat. its a checkmate persuader 20'-4" with the 350 magnum, it runs 60's now but i would like to see 70.. I will look into it (Hill props) thanks..."

Had a 1982 Silverline 16 ft d

Had a 1982 Silverline 16 ft deep v with a 470 in it. Stock aluminum prop was good for 46 mph.Went up a pitch in an ss prop and got 57 mph out of it and it came on plane just as quick as the stock pitch. Try taking a look at the thickness of the leading edge of an aluminum prop and compare it to the ss prop. It takes a lot of hp to cut that fat aluminum blade thru the water and that`s why an ss prop is so much more efficient.

barry and ghost coverd it all

barry and ghost coverd it all . take a look at stilleto props i found them to be reasonably price. and i think your lookin at major bucks if you think that you can compare asphalt to water

SS props... I will look into i

SS props... I will look into it.... I would like to get closer to 70 or even a little past it.. like i said she runs strong and in the 60's all day long.. I dont really want to be tweaking it all summer because of upper end mod's. I am in michigan and our summers are about 25 minutes long anyway and rather just throw a new prop on and hopefully get a few more mph out of it..
