"Hi all,I would like to replace the spun hub on the two bladed prop of my beautiful merc800

. The prop # is 48-32388,does anyone have a part # for the hub? Is it still possible to get the hub?
Also what difference will a lower gear ratio make to the motors performance? The original gear ratio was 2.3:1,the replacement was 1.83:1.Which I have an ugly feeling I'm going to have to replace again

"Noel, I don't even know of a source to find a part number for the hub. Have always simply relied on a prop shop. Changin' a hub is not something I would even attempt in the garage

Merc and Michigan wheel still make numerous prop options for your motor, so I would suspect that even though you want to retain the original twin blade, a hub from a 3 blade should fit without issue. It is just pressed in after all, so there should be a little wiggle room even if the barrel diameter is not identical to a modern prop.

Moving from 2.3:1 gears to 1.83:1 is kinda like hopping from my F150 pick-up into a little 2 door Honda
- one was meant to haul weight, the other just kinda blasts right off.

That is a significant gear change that will most likely result in a required pitch change for the prop.

I don't even know where to start on that one (how much less pitch) because that is a pretty uncommon modification. Something that will most probably have to be sorted out using a tach once you have her up and running....

Sorry, haven't been overly helpful here.."

"Thanks Graham,I was thinking

"Thanks Graham,I was thinking that. I'm running a 17 pitch and getting 5000rpm,looks like I need to drop an inch.
The lower unit was the only one I could find near hand and last time out when flushing I noticed a crack along the case.
Just when I had everything up and running after the rebuild
