Prop for aq131/275?

Ok guys is it just that I don't know where to look,or I don't know what I'm looking for?1986 Bayliner Volvo Aq131 with short shaft 275 outdrive.Am I stupid or is the only prop that will fit this thing a Volvo prop???????The 17 spline shaft looks like a real handicap.The non through the hub exhaust is also a deal killer! Does any company make a prop that will work except Volvo????? 4 blade,Stainless, anything except a Volvo aluminium 3 blade. Please tell me there is something out there. PLEASE!!!!!!!

Your AQ series drive exits the exhaust via an exhaust outlet housing.

Does any company make a prop that will work except Volvo?????
Sure..... Michigan Wheel, and several others. These companies have been selling AQ series single props for years.

The short shaft/long shaft is a common misnomer.

All AQ series propeller shafts net the same amount of splines/shaft when the correct spacer is used.

Here's an example.... but with the common misnomer.

Where it reads "Volvo Standard Shaft", it should also read 250, 270 and 275.... and we could actually include the 200.
Where it reads "Volvo Long Shaft", it should also read 280, 285, 290, SP (not s/p) etc.
Yes, there is a difference in shaft length due to the prop shaft bearing carrier and ring anode.
But this is corrected with the proper spacer/line cutter.

This has little to do with the propeller hub length, and has everything to do with the spacer/line cutter and the 1 pc -vs- the 2 pc spinner.

This short spacer/line cutter is used with the 250, 270, 275.

This long spacer/line cutter is used with the 280, 285, 290, SP.

In either scenario, the net shaft length ends up being the same.

The Long Hub/Short Hub Prop is addressed with the correct spinner component(s).
With a Long Hub propeller, item "C" of the 2 pc spinner is omitted.
Item "A" remains the same.

I've been running Volvo drives since 1964 (on 3 different Deep V boats) with 3 blade AL props here in NJ. No issues. Some times I get them dinged up by misjudgement or mishap and they always come back after a visit to a reliable prop repair shop. I figure that I'd rather pay for another prop or a rebuild than pay for a drive internal repair!

As to source... I usually buy MICHIGAN props. They still make props for older Volvos. A google search will pop up a number of sources which have selection tables w/ P/Ns.
 
Thanks Rick....When I go to Michigan website or anywhere else and plug in the sterndrive make and all the other info they say "Not Found".Is it that I just don't know what I'm looking for?
Ref 17 spline shaft....all the props that I see have 19 splines mine is a 17 spline.
Ref the through hub exhaust, right the 275 exhaust through the "trim tab" for lack of a better term.All the props I see have the cutout around the prop hub for through the hub exhaust, will they work?

Hey.... the only thing that would even come close to stupid, would be not asking the questions in the first place. :D :D


BTW, please familiarize yourself with post #2 so that you don't end up having trouble with the Short shaft/Long shaft misnomers, and/or with the Short hub/Long hub propellers and the spacer/line cutters.
Even these propeller companies and/or propeller repair shops occasionally get this wrong.

Nope .........right rotation sir.....thanks,was trying to find an aftermarket such as a Michigan,something other that that Volvo gold plated one lol......
 
I was asked to help a friend and check out his boat.
He said it wouldn't run as fast wouldn't plane or perform like it was supposed to.
I checked everything I could.Found NOTHING!!!
Scratching my head!!!! I noticed a prop on the ground and asked what it was from??
He said he'd just replaced the one on the ground with the new Michigan Prop.
Changed it back and the problems went away???
Some aftermarket props don't have the blade width needed by the low HP Volvo's
Good luck and make sure the props look like the OEM.
The replacement prop he'd put on looked like nothing he had had previously.
I have a Stainless prop if your interested.Actually have a pair of L@R for a Volvo.
Will look at the size if interested?

I am very interested sir.......the OEM that was on her was a 14x19RH......14x17 may work???????
