" I have a 16' Alumacraft

" I have a 16' Alumacraft 1648 and have added a center console. I bought a 50hp Evinrude that had been on a pleasure craft and has a 14" 13pitch prop. I borrowed a 13 1/4" 17 pitch and it runs 5500 rpm's wide open empty. Can I use an 18 pitch prop or do I need to have the existing prop re-pitched to a 15 pitch? I'm pretty ignorant about such things and need some help.
Thanks,

Edwin "

With 17" and 5500rpm is c

I tried the 13 pitch and the

I tried the 13 pitch and the motor ran 6100 rpm's. A boat dealer said that for it to run properly it should turn 5900 with me and one gallon of gas and nothing else in the boat. That way it would run around 5500 to 5600 with a little bit of a load.
