1988 15 HP rope start Johnson. (title should begin with Progress) The new hose from the tank, and new fuel pump fixed the fuel problem. Motor was starting and kept running, rope pull starter is fixed with the addition of the spacer washer in the bottom of the cup. My next issue became a misfire when the motor warmed up, misfiring on only one of 2 cylinders. I know coils can fail when they warm up. I decided to throw some money at it and replaced the coils, plug wires and plugs. I did that the same time I removed, repaired and replaced the starter. I took off the air intake, and made sure it the choke is engaging as part of reassembly. NOW it won't start!! The bottom coil bolt was where the ground wire connected, and the surface of the motor was pretty corroded there. I cleaned that up and made sure I have a good ground. Is there some way I could have put the coils on wrong? It all looks right. Could changing the coils blow up my power pack? Any stupid mistakes i could have made? What a journey. Thanks. Anyone know a good motor shop in the Denver area? LOL

I figured it was a dumb mistake. There is a ground wire that attaches to the bottom bolt that bolts on the coils. I thought for sure that bolt was tight. Not so. Bad ground. Tightened up the bolt, and she started on the first pull. What a journey! First trip out on the water tomorrow. Thanks for the help on this and other posts. Great forum!!!
