"I just noticed that my Port gear shifter is hard to shift from forward or reverse.
I can’t tell at times if I am in Neutral or not. I lubed the cables well and I went down
to the tranny and lubed were the cables connect to the tranny lever
and it’s still a little tight, both upper and lower stations. The Starboard is real nice and smooth and you can feel it come in and out of the gears.
Any ideas? I hope it’s not time for a new tranny.

DOes it shift hard with the cables off? Easiest way to find out is to remove the cable at the trannies and compare the two.

I'll bet is a kinked cable somewhere.

I will do that. I did not thin

I will do that. I did not think of that.
Thank you.

"Well I pulled off the 2 cables on the Port side tranny and both move real smooth. What bothers me is that when I put one or the other cable back on the tranny it works great but when I put both on as it was originally it’s tight again.
so at this time I only have the upper helm hooked up. It’s so much nicer when moving around tight corners.
Should I just replace both cables and hope for the best. I would pay a company to install
those so if there is any problems, like tightening up again I can go back to them.
what do you all think?"

If you think it's a cable

If you think it's a cable issue you can try lubricating them. Also have you check the shifters?
