My 98 6hp Evinrude was working fine until I tilted it up to come in to shore today, the throttle will not turn back to idle postion. I had marked Idle for me and my son so we knew where it was but know it will not return back so the idle is higher than normal and hard to shift

Any ideas what happended or where I should start looking

thanks for help

I suppose that you have lifted the cowl and actually looked?

Maybe the motor was between a gear shift and reverse when you tilted it?

I would try again aye?

This is not an ordinary problem, more user error and panic.

I vote for the tipping up causing some junk to fall into the throttle gears & jamming them there. Check for crap in the gears. turn the speed shaft back & forth & see where something has jammed it.

I am going to pull out the screws under the handle and pull of the cover and see if anything jammed inside when I tipped it up. Thanks for the info

I took off the cover plate off under the arm and moved the cable around and it went back to idle, not sure what I did but it worked. there are no gears just a cable that runs up the arm and into the motor housing.

thanks for the help and replies
