problem with steering

Have a Bayliner Capri , Force engine 125; the steering wheel is locked up. The engine seems to be in the towing position ( lock). Would that be the cause? How is it undone. I have just purchased this boat, and it has some issues that seem solvable, but no instructions exist. Also, The trim up/down button is missing . Any help on this is appreciated. Have not gotten to try to start it yet. Sat for three years, engine does turn over; 150-155 compression. Thanks!

Need to add the year of the boat and the motor. Model# and serial #s can help.
The 125 Capri came 2 ways. With T@T the T@T switch could be on the dash(upper left corner) or on the shifter handle.
The other way it came is without T@T(not many came this way) then the manual release would be on the transom clamp and it turns L@R to lock and unlock.
T@T fluid is checked/filled while it's in the down position.

The comp at 150-155 is good. Do a spark test and see if there's spark on all 4

Thank you for the reply. The boat is a 1989 , boat motor serial # is # 1251X9D. Th switch you mention is the missing switch; the wires are there. I have ordered an on/off switch for it; upper left, dash.

Thanks! I went to check the spark as suggested, no spark . I cannot find any emergency stop switch anywhere. Where is that on the dash? Without the switch being on, I have read that no spark will be produced. Someone really messed with this boats' wiring. The manual says it is on the control handle.....my control handle does not look anything like the owner's manual picture. Bayliner is of no use, poor records and lack of older boat records. This is a 19-foot Capri model, seemingly stock from factory yet no records/books to match the dash, etc. Pretty discouraging.

SO I have many problems. The steering, the T &T switch or motor, the lack of spark. How can I bypass the safety switch which I cannot locate. It is definitely not on the control; may be missing or have various loose wires at dash. What color should the safety switch wires be? Can I just bypass them? With that safety switch not working, I cannot operate the boat engine. I have found three different wiring diagrams for the Bayliner. Which is proper is anyone's guess.

This is very frustrating because the manufacturer and aftermarket are not at all helpful. Worse, Bayliner engineers seemed to be high when designing.....not much makes sense or follows any continuity within models.

1989 D model
it's 35 years old and without a doubt someone's changed something along the way.
On the block used to be a wiring diagram. Still there?

Went back to the garage; yes, it is there (faded but readable) for the wiring on engine. There is a start, and what looks to be two stops (#1 and #2) not sure as I am reading faded decals but pretty sure. I can make out the colors. What to do next? Thanks!
