I have a 2005 mercruiser alpha 1 inboard motor I took the sterndrive off when I winterized it I'm putting it back on now and the lower unit is in neutral but when I put it back in its stuck in reverse and I cant get it to move into any other gears please help

If you do not know how to shift your boat into forward gear how did you remove the drive to begin with??
How do you make the boat go forward when in the water and using it??? You have to SHIFT it into FORWARD...Correct?

You most likely had to yank the outdrive off with a lot of force didnt you????

Now because you did it that way you may have damaged the shift linkage!!!!!

Before attempting to do your own boat work you should AT LEAST READ A MANUAL or ask someone who may know how.

Not knowing is what causes damage and costs $$$$$$$$ to repair.

You're going to have to pull the outdrive back off. Then shift the boat into forward gear and locate the shift spool on the outdrive and make sure its pointing straight forward. Then Carefully put the outdrive back on and you should be fine.

My guess is, you got the drive on and pulled it tight to the bell housing using the attaching bolts. If the answer is yes, there is a good chance that you have bent the shift rod in the lower unit.

FYI.... If you cannot push the outdrive on all the way to the bell housing easily, stop! There is something wrong!
