Good Morning to all. I have a 1999 Evinrude 6hp, that was under fresh Water for about 25 Minutes, the engine was pulled out, Plug were removed, all water from cylinders was remove empty the carb bowl, dry the engine with air compressor, started the engine, ran it for about 30 minutes that day with no problems the engine sat for 2 weeks. now it runs but is not running well, at WOT, its misses, its sputtering and not picking up the speed it use to have.

Plugs were replace, compression was checked and it 120PSI on both cylinders, I think its a electrical issue, but not sure,

Any Ideas ????

Remove, clean thoroughly, and repair the carburetor as needed.

Remove flywheel, clean (brush) everything that's under it... some WD40 would help, and blow off with compressed air.

Make notes, take pictures.... no, you won't remember which way that spring or linkage goes. :cool:

Let us know how things go for you.

A timing light will tell you if plugs are getting spark or not. Was entire fuel system flushed,lines ,pump,?

J6SS = 2000 6hp Johnson

The code is the word INTRODUCES whereas each letter stands for a number... I=1, N=2, T=3 etc etc.

The "SS" in the model number = "00" = 2000

The first two letters are assumed to be either 19 or 20. Since it would be impossible to be 1900 (Outboard not invented yet), it must me 20.

By the time we reach the year of 2080... This setup started in 1980 and it could become confusing in 2080, they'll figure something else out.

We won't care at that point anyway! :cool:

If it was salt water you may be screwed as the engine needs to be completely disassembled as fast as possible to remove the salt. Fresh water you just need to go throught the electrical system good double check compression.
