"Please help!
I have a 25 Johnson 1989 that I am trying to get the Electric start to work. It has not ran for about 7 years, so I bought a new battery, new plugs, & of course some fresh gas. After installing all these I tried to start it and all I could get is a clicking sound and the starter would not crack. I check to make sure that the starter would turn freely and it did. I did however get the engine to start by using the pull start, but the electric start still would not work. Any ideas as to where I might start looking to find the problem? Thanks in advance for any help."

Did make sure that all of the connections are clean and tight from the battery to the starter? You may have received a low battery. In any event sounds like lack of power at the starter off hand."

"Alright here is the update. When I jump from the batter directly to the starter it turns over just fine. So I'm thinking the starter silenoid is bad, however I can here it drawing down like it is working. Is their any other safety circuits I should be aware of or is it common for the starter silenoid to go bad?"

"Take you an ohm meter and measure the voltage across the selnoid whil some one is turning the key. or just to see if the fire is getting across the switch from the key. If you can short out the selnoid and start it and the wire from the switch, Which is white I think it is most likely the selnoid."
