Problem setting sync and link on 1986 225hp Evinrude

I'm trying to set the sync and link on my 1986 225hp Evinrude (E225TXCDA) and the linkage is different from the manual. The linkage on my motor is like the linkage shown in the V8 diagram, so a can't follow the sync procedure for the V6 engine. The idle timing procedure is totally different for the V6 vs the V8. Does anyone know about this difference on some of the 1986 engines and should I just follow the procedure for the V8? I'm afraid the recommended idle timing and idle rpm could be different for each engine, so I could sure use some guidance on how to proceed.

I may have found the answer to my own question. I checked in a Clymer's manual and the 1986 V6 225hp E225TXCDA has the same linkage as the V8 in the Evinrude/Johnson manual that I have. I discovered that my E/J manual is after 1986, so I'll follow the Clymer's procedure for the 1986 V6. Does anyone know the basic setup for the idle timing before you adjust it to 650rpms at forward idle. I had replaced the timer base and want to be sure that I have the right starting point before I make any adjustments.
