"Went thru the whole process per the shop manual for replacing the seal on the shift cover... All went well until reassembly time. I'm at the...” remove the shims and reinstall the adjuster screw... the vertical shaft should not turn”... Well it does... freely.
I put it together with the arm "between Fwd and N" per instructions...same thing. With cover off, rotating the prop causes the shaft to rotate (I can see the cone clutch spin)... If I figit around with the shift lever I can find a point where there is some drag... ALl mating surfaces are clean... screw wire brushed clean ( brass brush) as is the mating surface on the shift arm... Yes shift shoe is offset to STBD.
What to do... Install as is? Add one shim ??? Is there a problem I don’t know about ???"
