Problem dropping lower end

I have a 1967 Mercury 6 hp, I need to drop the lower end, I removed the upper and lower retaining bolts and after some work I got it to drop about 3/4 of an inch however it will not drop any more? Any ideas?

It's stuck in the shifter or driveshaft splines. Turn it upside down and spray lots of penetrating oil on those two shafts. Then wait over night.
