Need help! I change the water pump on 40 hp efi mercury today. after putting it in the water I notice that the exhaust is coming out around the anode on the lower prop housing. It is also coming out of the center of the prop a little. Is this normal for the exhaust to be coming out around the anodes also?

Could be that there is a leaking exhaust gasket if that engine has one. It definitely comes out of the prop. Check the schematics using this site by plugging in your serial number.

Please look at the picture attachment,you will there is a seperate compartment for the exhaust and the anodes. no gasket to seal the two compartment from each other.So when running exhaust is coming out the prop and a little leaking out the anodes compartment.
