Priming engine with Outboard tilted.

Guys,

Quick query. I usually prime the bulb and outboard whilst still in the preparation area whilst the outboard is still half tilted. I only fully lower the leg when about to start it on the ramp. Does that have any impact on start up i.e fuel in the carbs?

Thanks

The primer bulb is a manual fuel pump.------------It fills carburetors with fuel.----------Saves the starter motor from doing that at start-up time.---------------If motor is fully tilted up there may be leakage that could be a fire hazard when you turn the key to crank it over.

Carbs are designed to run level as possible. Yours MIGHT leak like a seive on such an angle, and that could mean a fire of stunning proportions (as raceone warned).

The bottom line: Don't do it!

the only time i would carbs tilted if i had water in them....and then trim till the lower unit is still in water enough to cool the engine....some carbs are built where you will get the gas to the engine without the water like that....but i would and have done that only when i was stranded and had no choice....
