How do I know if its time to replace this primer solenoid? or just replace the red piece that has a crack in it letting fuel drip out?

These primer solenoids are very reliable.------After all they just operate for seconds at a time.---------------A new solenoid is quite spendy .--The repair parts are listed for your leak and very cheap.---------See a dealer as they likely have the bits in stock.

Sounds good. I have a crack going thru the red plastic piece and it is quite more then a drip. I ordered the plastic red piece but realize there is a gasket in there. will this need to be replaced once I open it up? why would I have a constant leak of fuel thru this if it only engages for a few short seconds during start up?
Thanks

No, when the motor is cranking / running there is fuel pressure to the primer / valve unit.------When you push the key in that fuel goes into the motor.-------Look at the bigger hose that supplies pressurized fuel to the primer valve.-----------This primer is NOT a pump , it is only a valve !

So basically the obvious crack in the red piece would be the cause of fuel leaking from the unit. if replaced I should solve the issue? parts been ordered. curios to know if this will help the motor idle better. could I be not supplying enough fuel due to this malfunction? could it be letting more air thru the system then I should have?
thanks guys

I'm asking questions to try to learn more about it. this is my first project so I apologize if some questions seem stupid. fuel leaks out during operation of the motor the entire time it is running. does this sound like I have a bigger issue?

I am well versed with the operation of these primer units.----But without seeing / feeling your unit I can not say how it is affecting the operation of your motor in this leaking / failure mode.----Find the bigger hose that supplies pressurized fuel to it.-----------Start the motor and pinch off the fuel supply to the primer.--------------What happens to the way the motor runs now ?--And I suggest you do the simple repairs on it.-------Then test your motor again.--------There can be a host of other pronlems not related to the primer.
