Primer Bulb Collapse

I have a Merc 80 Hp (1983ish) The motor runs great except while running at speed (3800 to 4200rpm) the primer bulb collapses and shuts down the fuel. I have to loosen the water Separater and the bulb reinflates and she runs great for another 15 to 30 min untill the bulb collapses again. I'm new to outboards. I am thinking of replacing the fuel lines, Bulb and water separator. Am I on the right track?

Right. Also, be careful sticking any kind of restriction before the fuel pump on an outboard. They have lousy vacuum.

where is the water separator in the fuel feed?before or after the bulb? on a motor that old and running todays gas i would replace the fuel line(s) and bulb as a maintenance item even without a problem....use marine or good gasoline hoses..3/8 inch..if it is sucking the bulb flat the existing problem is either the bulb (valve in it) of a hose from the bulb to the tank or the strainer or venting problem...depending on location it may or not be the water serarator but i would replace the filter anyway...you dont want to spend less than 100 bucks anyway...its unheard of for me to spend less on any project..

I just replaced mine with an Merc one from the dealer as the last guy put on a Attwood or.. Colapsed at the dock, couldn't get it un stuck. Short day.

No problems since changing it with a good one.
