I just cannot understa

I just cannot understand why cleaning carbs, replacing them(without moving any adustable settings) can cause the engine not to start! the only indicator is; no fuel getting into cyliders(take plugs ut turn over, smell) and an 'open' circuit when I put a multi meter accross the connectors of the coil."
