"Joe.. Thanks for the response. I don't know if I can get the #, but i'll try!

Quick? If were were getting 12V and no voltage drop on both sides of the solenoid when turning the key= Bad starter? I don't get it on a engine with under 80hrs???"

take jumper cables and hook to

take jumper cables and hook to that starter directly......i doubt u have a starter prob......but.......could be.

"That's what I was thinking jwbmarine! I being charged 237.00 for starter and 85.00hr install. I know these prices are typical in nj, but I still don't think it's the starter either. I think i should call them and tell them to jump the starter!! any other advice would be helpful!!

Thanks Guys!"

"I called the marina and I had it backwards, had 12v at starter and when key was turned it did drop to 7.4v. Starter pulling down, possible short in starter? Anyway it getting replaced. Does this still sound right for a bad starter?

Chris"

the drop to 7.4 could be a bad

the drop to 7.4 could be a bad or weak battery..it could also mean a high resistance connection between battery and starter...it could also mean a resistance connection between starter and ground...do this...place voltmeter directly across battery post and turn key...read voltage...move positive lead to positive post on starter and turn key..read voltage..the readings should be the same..if not you got a bad connection in positive feed to starter...remember this:you will not read a voltage drop unless you are pulling current..a fully charger battery should read 12.7 volts with no load...i would not replace starter til i verified battery is good...

Chris...i notice you have 2 threads going on this problem....i notice in other thread it looks like you did some wiring and solenoid replacement...are you sure you have the wiring correct?Carl

Chris..i notice another thread

Chris..i notice another thread..that makes three threads on this problem....no big deal but it makes it difficult for whoever is assisting you to do proper follow up and understand what is happening in sequence on a problem...if you end up needing starter i have used this site before and got good prices and prompt delivery..good luck...Carl

"Hello Carl.. Thanks for the h

"Hello Carl.. Thanks for the help... I have posted several other times regarding the Solenoid & Battery!I just bought the boat in Sept and didn't think I would have these problems with a 3yr old engine. I did figure out the simple wire delimma with the Solenoidd just didn't have any responses, so I re-posted where I left off. I did replace the Battery(Sears Die hard 550cca)and Solenoid($35), cleaned connections and still Solenoid Clicks. Like I mentioned boat mechanic tested voltage and had 12V at starter, and 7.4 at sides of Solenoid. Could there still be a bad connection between battery cables and starter, boat is a 1997 with 2004 engine. I really appreciate the help and it's obvious Iam not a electrical guru! Thanks for all your help! You too Joe, I wish you had the right starter.....

Chris"

Chris...do as J.W. suggests and jumper from positive post on battery to starter..if it still dont go you prolly need a new starter...Carl
