Pretty Much Off Topic - Heads

Sorry for the off topic but this is the only forum I read.

I want to replace the head on my boat. I am considering the Jabsco 58240-1012. Does anyone have experience with this head? Good or bad? Any other recommendations for an electic flush? I use lake water for the flush. Or maybe you could recommend a forum that discusses this type mundane topic.

Thanks,

Chuck Hanson

Chuck:

The "rule" is to use potable water to flush, for the lake water can cause stink problems. I have one of those dopey septic tank under the toilet rigs that has to be pumped to a larger tank every day or so. The vacuum flush deals look the best to me.

I don't know a lot about it but a pal of mine put in a composting head. He say's that there is no smell in the head due to venting. The only issue he say's to watch for is to remember to drain the unine from the tank or it will over flow but he goes the whole summer without having to worry about the solid waste.

chuck,
the vac-u-flush is the way to go. Use fresh water from your boats water supply and install a vent filter. Mine has been trouble free since I got the boat.

It's not a "composting head" but rather a tank set up to provide "aerobic" activity. works about 20X better than the anerobic method. Another benefit is the lack of "tank stink". Only drawback is you have to be careful about what you put into the head and tank. Those little areobic guys don't like chemicals.

I installed a Raritan Sea Era that has been good. Make sure to get the household size model. Also make sure to check you dimensions and connection locations as some of them differ and with limited spoace can be difficlut to reconfigure.

It would be nice to have the Vacuflush, not sure how much more complicated they are to install.

One other thing, it would be nice to have 2 flush options, one to just clear the bowl and the other clear and flush water through. The one I got doesnt have this and not sure if can be retrofitted, but would add much less volume to the tank.
