Picked-up a 1988 Cruisers W/ p

Picked-up a 1988 Cruisers W/ pair of Crusader 454 350 hp carb motors. Starboard motor max's @ 3800 rpm w/rich exhaust odor over 2000 rpm. I've been following another discussion which suggested timing advance. Sure enough the advance weights were frozen. I freed and lubed but now everything in the dist. seems too loose and "sloppy". Springs won't return weights all the way. Motor always idled great and preformed well below 2000 rpm until I "played" with the dist. Now tack bounces and idle is rough. Timing @ 10 btdc. Prestolite's dist and parts are hard to find. What replacement dist. will work on this motor? Mallory YLM624AV?

"Mallory. Hey, it's a Chevy, right? All kinds of stuff out there for them.

"You want a totally electronic

"You want a totally electronic system - not only the pickup but the advance mechanism, too. Make sure which ever you select will work for both the standard and the reverse rotation applications. If there is any uncertainty or hesitation, go to the next brand.

And make sure it is approved for MARINE Use."

"The old merc thunderbolt IVs

"The old merc thunderbolt IVs are totally electronic. I believe most of the Mallory items have mechanical advances. Though some have had good luck with them (mech advance), I have not, especially in the ocean environment. The Delco's Dave suggested may be mixed but don't know.

Try some www research and find some in the price range you can afford. Once you get it down to a few choices, then i'd factor in the opinions."
