Pressure Relief Valve Backwards

"Sorry in advance for this dumb question...
But when I took the thermostat out, the pressure relief valve fell out...I noticed it has one side beveled and the other flat...( I have looked at many diagrams, but none are clear enough for me to be sure)...
I put it back with the beveled side toward the head/seal... would that be correct?...Overheating at high rpm...

Thanks, that makes me feel better, I was assuming that the pressure would be coming from the head side....

Thanks, I didn't use any force with it, but after seeing the crud in the water pump, think I will remove the head cover again and clean the water jackets a little, I'll recheck it.."
