Another question on the pressure tank. I have a leak around the pump shaft. Is there suppose to be a o ring or something in there to prevent this. I can't find one if there is.

"I have converted a 59 18hp Johnson to a fuel pump delivery system. I used a mikuni pump, mounted remotely. It works great. I dont know your 5.5, never worked on one, but I would expect if do the research and do the work carefully, this method would work for you as well.

Take the cover plate off when you do the drilling and tapping. Remove all the burrs and chips from when you drill. You cant let any metal chips, dirt, debris in the motor! The fuel lines are pretty much self expainitory. Plug the intake check valve, use the hose barb that you take out of the intake to connect to the cover plate/ pump.

This would be a good off season project, as not to rush yourself. The information is out there, as earlier posted.

Mikuni pump $20.00 Aircraft Spruce p/n 07-00777
Brass 1/8" tapered plug $5.00
1/8" plug tap $9.00
Fuel lines $10.00
Inline fuel filter $5.00
Fuel connector $30.00 p/n 438793"
