Pre-Alpha V8 thermostat housing

Hello all!

I'm in the process of rebuilding and reassembling a basket case 305 that was (and will again be) hooked to a '79 Mercruiser outdrive. Turns out the previous owner neglected to include a few parts, one of which was the thermostat housing.

I'm trying to figure out how the hoses were routed and where the water is supposed to go - that way perhaps I could make use of existing parts on hand, or at least have a proper understanding of why I'll be buying another $175 worth of parts ;)

From what I can figure, the original had two fittings on the cover, and six on the housing. Photos of other boats lead me to believe they go as follows:

- The two on the cover connect to the front fittings on the exhaust manifolds
- Two on the housing connect to the back of the exhaust manifolds
- Two others on the housing connect to the sterndrive
- The largest fitting on the housing connects to the belt-driven water pump (a no-brainer)

Am I anywhere near right? Even if I am, that still leaves one fitting unaddressed - the second largest one on the housing. In photos I can see its hose going down along the front of the right head, but can't see where it ends up.

More importantly, is there anything special about that housing? Are all six of the fittings on it able to flow freely between and among one another, or are there features cast into it that I can't see?

Example of a picture I've been referencing: http://tonova.typepad.com/thesuddencurve/images/350_mousemotor.jpg
Example of the correct(?) housing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190624614539

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes,.... Without the Right T-stat housing, it'll over-heat at times, 'n under heat other times....
