Mercury Marine gave me the part # for the Shift Cable Assembly Kit as 8M017625

The Mercruiser dealer sent me Kit # 865436A03 and told me that this kit replaces 8M0117625 - which I believe is not true

Sierra part # 18-2603 has been suggested as a better kit or product.

The Sierra kit has 2 housing gaskets where as the Mercruiser kit only has one

The Mercruiser kit has a 3 1/2" Black insert (same as the small one but longer) - the Sierra kit does not

I will be asking Mercury Marine the differences between - 8M0176525 and 865436A03

I am asking - do I need that 2nd gaskets?

Appreciate any thoughts - Stuart

This is the current AFT entry cable, the length of the insert does not matter.the one in there will work just fine .did you remove the old one yet? You use the gasket that matches your drive oval or flat top

Using the old cable l am able to push it through the Transom - l do not know if the insert is in there or not - l don't feel it
l think that l will check the biegle and see if it is there - l don't know how to spell biegle

l believe that with my helper pushing slowly on the cable and me up in the engine bay and using a coat hanger l will be able to bring the cable upwards - routed as you said - l can almost reach the end of the cable using long needle nose vice grips - very carefully - the only thing that concerns me is the length of the new cable end - we will see

The gasket matches the bell housing - except there is a hole just above the top right stud not threaded and the gasket covers it - there is no pin on the upper unit

will let you know what happens
