" When you hit an object in slow speed, a motor without powertilt will suffer very small damage, because it will tilt. My motor has a powertilt and the hydraulics prevents it from going up. Is there somebody who has made a modification to save the motor? It could be mechanical or hydraulical. I was thinking of putting some kind of spring loaded relief valve in the circuit. In that case, a hydraulic diagram would be helpful. My dealer has no suggestion. There must be a lot of people, who have this need, somebody must have solved it before me.

"Robert.... That design P/T/T

"Robert.... That design P/T/T already has spring loaded bypass valves (4 of them if memory serves me right) built into the center tilt cylinder piston which would allow the engine to kick up if an underwater object should be hit, but unfortunately it takes quite a wallop to engage it.

The units holding power is strictly a hydraulic system and no change to the electrical system would affect that.

I assume that you're looking for a way to have the engine kick up if you should be trolling and strike something. Again, unfortunately, I can think of no way to do this.

If you weaken those relief valve springs, that would cause the engine to swing up when reverse is engaged, and/or simply destroy the holding power of the unit in either direction.

There are (obviously) other valves in that unit that could be weakened, but with the same results. Should you come up with a solution, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
