"I'm trying to remove the powerhead on a 2000, 25hp Johnson. I remove the four bolts from below & two nuts inside the cover. I have a hoist connected to the powerhead, but it won't seperate. Any suggestions?"

"If you're sure that you have all of the retaining bolts removed, in all probability the crankshaft splines are frozen within the driveshaft splines. This would result in being able to lift the powerhead a slight bit.

If so, it's a matter of ingenuity to separarte the two.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay store at:

"Considering it's installed dry, it's amazing how much of a "bite" that gasket can get on the powerhead. Assuming it's not as Joe states above, (which should be able to be easily verified by removing the lower?) you may want to try using a little leverage. I didn't use a hoist, I just lifted it myself, but I couldn't get the thing to budge no matter what... a piece of aluminium bar stock to "pry" up on one corner of the powerhead quickly seperated it without much effort.. Once the gasket seal was broken it lifted off without any problem at all...

I realize you're using a hoist, but I'm just wondering if you're not lifting hard enough to actually break the seal (fearing breaking something... ;)"

"Thanks for the help, I was able to get the powerhead off after some work. I think the liquid wrench helped break the gasket seal."
