I have to rebuild the powerhead on a 1986 DE115TCXG and have been offered a 1989 powerhead serial number 11502913654. How can I find out if they fit. The newer 1989 powerhead and my 1986 DT 115 are several thousand miles apart so I can't get them together before I buy the 89 powerhead.

"No go! The legs are different so I would assume the bolt holes will also be different. Rebuild what you have, so at least you know what you have got and can hope for another several thousand hours of trouble free fun. If you can do the mechanical work your self you will save a bundle . Parts prices are not to bad for that model."

The powerhead in my DT115 cracked and the previous owner welded it so it looks as though I would need new upper and lower cilinder heads. I have priced parts to rebuild and they run an estimated $1,200. Since I am not a mechanic I have to farm out the work and the total rebuild is estimated to cost around $2.000.
The question that arises here is: Is it worth to invest that much money on a 24 year old outboard motor from one of the lesser sold brands?
The motor came with a 18' Sea Pro that I bought through E-bay at an extremely good price for the boat, so I can say it hasn't cost me a cent."
