Power trim slow descent

I've got a 1996 Mercury Mariner 60 HP when you put the power trim up, it slowly descends sometimes. Once in a while it will hold, sometimes, it slowly descents, maybe a half inch a minute. A mechanic checked for water in the system, but couldn't find anything. I'm thinking maybe there's a bad seal in the system. Anyone know if there is a rebuild kit or maybe I'm overlooking something?

Being the year model, and no idea as to the hours of usage, leaking seal(s) on the ram piston or in the pump can cause this problem due to wear.....my best guess...having never been there before but had lots of farm hydraulic cylinders gaskets wear out and cause the same problem.

I have a print of the official Merc. OEM manual for my range of engines in the 75-125 HP class. In the rear of the manual is a full scale repair procedure with Illustrated Parts Diagram with an associated parts list with part numbers supplied. So to answer your question......Yes. I got my manual off Ebay and was reasonably priced.

That vintage single ram trim system used the same the seals from the 4 cylinder 40 to the 125 hp. I've replaced seals on both systems with the same seal kits. A guy was selling them on ebay several years ago. The seal kit part number was 813432A3, this was only the O rings and other parts needed to rebuild the ram and not for the entire trim system which is all I needed to repair. Hope this helps.

Here you go, I double checked and they're still available and much less expensive than buying the entire rebuild kit.
