i have an Alpha one 3.0 lx mercrusier 1994

Tried replacing power trim fluid ( it was a dark tan with pea green tint color) which just didn't look right and not sure if it was ever replaced. I drained the resevouir and then also unscrewed the hose fittings on each side of the stern drive (see pictures) ' I'm surebthis isn't the correct way to do it, got out some fluid, but could still be some left in system that I couldn't get out.

2 questions:

Manual says you can replace with SAE 10w 30 or 40 motor oil, I guess this is true, correct? I guess I would feel safer replacing with power trim fluid.....what are your thoughts/opinion on this.

Second, can I just refill the resevoir , move trim up and down, refill more if needed, or do I need the bleed the system some how. thanks for any info ahead of time. IMG_20130429_192830.jpgIMG_20130429_192756.jpg

10W30 fine. Just use a turkey baster and change what's in the reservoir. Do this every couple of years, and there is no need to disconnect any lines.
no bleeding necessary if you already did open lines.

Just keep an eye on the reservoir level as you cycle the system a few times.
