Power tilt and trim probs

"a sudden surge in the volt meter to 18 and the a few minutes later while boating, the motor starts triming up all the way, shut it off and had to unhook the battery to stop the trim motor, i thought i narrowed it down to the trim switch on the control, replaced and worked great then about 30 min later, came out of the house and the motor was triming up and still going,for approx 30 min i would guess what would cause the trim switch to suddenly override, and solutions and possible fixes would be good"

It would be easy just to listen for the "click" when you press the trim button. In option 2, part number 18, would be located on the powerhead electrical panel

"with trim switches in 3 locations, it could be a bad switch anywhere or the wiring going to them. It could also be the relay, thats why I said switch the relays, easy and free.
If a relay just clicks and the trim pump doesn't move, the relay is bad, the pump is shot, or the wires going to the pump is bad. Your battery is still good right."

"just charging the battery fully again, when the problem first started, i narrowed it down to the throttle switch,unpluged all switches and rear and front worked proper, when i plugged in the control one it was auto going up,replaced it and worked fine,then all of a sudden it started working on its own, going to start with the relay and go from there, what do you think"

"if the relays just click, check for power at the pump, it might have burned the pump up while you were drinking a cold one. Original problem still exists though"

"i just checked the trim motor, i hooked up a battery charger to the ground and the positive and no movement from the trim motor at all, im thinkin that it is kaput, what do u think."
