Hi. I have a 1985 johnson 150

Hi. I have a 1985 johnson 150 that the power head was just rebuilt. The problem is that when you are a wot the motor losses power. If you let off and start again this will usually help for a minute. It has new fuel lines and new filter. pumping bulb has no effect. When it is at idle it sound like it has a miss.It seems to get worst as the engine heats up. I only had it out once did'nt want to ruin a new motor. The powerhead has been bored all 6 cyc all new parts compressin is good. Any ideas Thanks Tim

"first,if u can, take it back to the mech that did the overhaul.....are u still on the VRO oiling system?..second,ck the spark and compression again...if both good,go into the carbs,to verify cleanliness or repair.next,i would ck for a sticking anti sypon valve on the fuel tank,if u are using a built-in.,are the linkages hooked up and WORKING on all 3 carbs?,timer base advancing properly? High speed timing set properly?"

Thanks I'll check the carb

Thanks I'll check the carbs. Iam not using the oil side of vro. I'm the one who did the power head. This problem was strarting before it burned a piston due to a blown head gasket. Timing has been set. All the linkages are hooked up. Would a power pack cause this it acts like it is losing some of the cyc. thanks

"pack sure could....this remin

"pack sure could....this reminds me of a customer who did his own overhaul,in the early 80's...he put the pistons in 180 degrees off...i prob spent a week on that motor till i pulled the hd...just a thought..."

i replaced a power pack on the

i replaced a power pack on the water this morning for the exact symtoms you described..i have been working on as a fuel problem for some time...when mine failed i noticed a bad idle when i popped it back to nutruel..so i took it out with cowl off and a inductive timing light..which i carry in tool case that stays with boat..got a failure and was solid on one plug..plug didnt fix...same failure 5 miles later..i then replaced power pack and have run approx 20 miles..i can tell difference in idle from before even when engine was running right so feel good about power pack being the fix..even if you buy a power pack and it dont fix the problem a spare power pack (and inductive timing light) is a good addition to your tool box in my opinion...sorry for jumping in jwbmarine..you do a good job in here..i scan this site daily..

another thought..i think if i

another thought..i think if i had used joe reeves spark test i would have caught this failure as solid setting on traier..

"thanks carl---we ALL very seldom get a thanks...i am usually on in the am while drinking coffee before wk,or when it is 98 degrees.....this site IS addicting...is'nt it."
