Power head removal and reinstallation

I have good mechanical abilities and have a good tool set, but I have never worked on outboards. Should I be able to remove and reinstall (after it's overhauled) the power head on my 1993 Johnson 150? Can this be done without removing the outboard from the boat? I know I will need a hoist and a Seloc manual.

Forget the Seloc manual, get an OMC manual for that motor.

Yes. In fact, being bolted to something (like a boat) helps hold it down as you work on it.
