"I have a bad cylinder on a 19

"I have a bad cylinder on a 1983 evinrude e115tlct. I see I can buy a rebuilt powerhead for $1300. I can change the starter on the boat and fuel pump but can I change a powerhead? How difficult is it?? Special tools, timing lights, ect. Would I be better off looking for a drop in motor? What years would just (drop in ) ? Thanks for any help. FYI I bought a rebuild kit for the fuel pump but the directions were not clear and I ended up buying a new pump."

"Just in my opinion I wouldnt

"Just in my opinion I wouldnt bother doing any of it yourself, drop it off to a reputable engine rebuild shop, let them take care of it.(wont be that huge of a price difference and it will save you the headache plus get you back on the water WAY faster. Allthough if your bound and determined to do it yourself for the experience or your just bored, removing the powerhead is a very simple task actually. You wont need any special tools to remove the powerhead. If you did do it yourself, you would also have to double check base timing(machine shop will do base timing but it's always good to check), then set maximum spark advance (using a timing light, boat in forward gear at max r.p.m or whatever service manual calls for.)
Maybe someone else will dissagree with my thoughts on this, but thats just my opinion.

P.S those rebuild kits for the fuel pumps are a pain for everyone lol."

"thats a good eng to rebuild..

"thats a good eng to rebuild......but,1300.00 is too cheap in my opinion for a 'QUALITY' rebuilt eng...look on the internet...now,if it is a patchup job,..fix one hole & go,..i can see it..."
