Hi everyone, I have a power head that i need to figure out what motor this is for. I bought it and was told it is a 2.0L but it doesn't look like the 2.0L that i have so I just want to check to make sure.
Here is the info that I do know about the motor.
The manufacture date is 2 - 21 - 94
The head casting # is: 18787-C4
The block casting number is: 884-9765-C1[3]A
The intake side of the block casting number is: 969-9076-C3
The motor has no "freeze plug" serial number. I was told because it is a complete assembled core replacement power head there is no serial number there. It doesn't look like there ever was one, it is the same gloss paint as the rest of the motor and doesn't look to have been disturbed.
There is a funny story behind the motor. I bought it off kijiji 3 or 4 years ago. The guy said he worked as a manager for a Ford/Mercury car dealership. Apparently someone told the guy that works the parts counter to order a 2.0L V6 replacement core from Mercury. Well, the guy was new, so he looked up the Mercury number and ordered the replacement core engine. A Few weeks later the engine shows up from Mercury Marine and thats when they figured out the mistake. The motor sat in the dealership for a few years then was bought by the parts manager but he never got around to finding a motor and putting it on. That's the story, who knows if it's true, sounds a little questionable but he seemed to have a good answer for my questions at the time or i wouldn't have bought it.
I bought the motor to fix a motor, I got with a boat, that was in pieces. I Believe that motor is a 1986; the serial number is A933604. I had to go out and buy a different intake/reed block for the motor as it did not come with it and the old motor was vertical reed cages and this motor is horizontal. Another reason I am questioning what motor this is.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
