Power failure

I have a 50 hp johnson on my 1987 sea nymph. Not really sure if my issue is related to the motor or not but maybe j can get help here. My boat would not respond at all when turning the key after dying while underway. After time in the shop, turns out it was just water in the fuel. Went out for 2 12 hour days this weekend with no problem. Went out last night for a few hours with no issues. However...once i returned to the dock i shut the motor off and when i returned with my trailer my boat has a complete power loss. My batteries are all fully charged. Turning the the key does nothing. Not particularly boat savy but i can trace wires to find the issue with guidance.

there may be an inline fuse in the positive wiring under the cowl...it also sounds like it could be corroded battery terminals.. the first time it failed would the motor turn over or would it spin and not start?

may be the neutral switch not making...make sure you are in neutral and jiggle the control arm while trying to start..you find the fuse?

Battery cable terminals can develop a layer of non-conductive corrosion that most people don't "see". A new battery does not remove the corrosion from the cable ends. Take them apart, and scrape, sand, wire-brush or whatever it takes to get to the base metal, then reassemble tightly. This may not be the problem, but can't hurt anyway.

The other likely cause is the neutral start safety switch as already suggested.
