I have a 1977 Johnson 75 hp outboard & was told to use the JOE REEVES Timing method,, but to disable the quick start,, i don't know if i have quick start & also trying to find out if the label on the motor which says TIMING 16* ,, is for idle or for the WOT timing,, if some1 can help me i would appreciate it very much,, & to also tell me what the idle timing is supposed to be & the WOT timing is supposed to be,,, TY

You have no quick start and yes, the timing is at WOT. The idle timing will depend on your idle rpm and installation/boat prop condition. Be sure you do a proper link&synch of the engine and set the pick-up point (when carbs starts to open) correctly.

i don't have a RPM gauge on it, so NO IDEA what it is,, so what is the idle timing supposed to be at?? if there is a idle timing,, & i understand the WOT timing is to be set at 16 degrees ,, & then i guess backed off 4 degrees according to the JOE REEVES timing method ????

It is no 'idle timing' setting as engine idle is done by 'advancing' the idle timing. Idle has to be set when boat is in water, forward gear and running 'free'. Should be around 7-800. With a 'heavy' rig, you may have to advance the timing a bit more than on a light application in order to get the correct rpm, or the engine will stall out.
