"Took the boat out after fixing it thanks to this forum. Was riding for over 2 hours and no overheating or anything. When i took it home to flush it, was using it in salt water, it overheated. Open the "raw" water cap tocheck the strainer and i found little rubber pieces. Can this be my impeller? Dont know or never seen one. Thanks for the assistance."

"Do you want the normal A$$ chewing, or the nice polite version?
OK, I'll be polite!

If you have not seen the raw water pump impeller, this may mean that you are not performing your routine maintenance. This part serves us best if changed, or at least inspected, annually (in Rick's book anyway!)
Get a copy of a Volvo Penta OEM service manual and learn what you can about your particular engine/drive.

Yes..... the rubber peices that you are seeing are very likely from a damaged impeller...... if not this one, possibly a previous one where-by the pieces were not retrieved! OUCH!

Running dry, sucking up sand or debris can cause this."

"Thanks. Just got the book today and reading about all the maintenance. Just bought this boat and it was supposed to be ready to go. First boat by the way. This has proven to be a big learning lesson.

Learn what you can and take all of the Preventative Maintenance measures.

Drive shaft Bellows

All of this P/M will make the over-all experience a better one for you!

Ya pay now, or ya pay much more <font color=""119911"">$$$$</font> later!
It's that simple!

errrr.... Is the raw water strainer AFTER the raw water pump??? IF not, then the rubber pieces are likely to be the degraded innards of the "S" hose which brings water from the drive to the transom shield.

IF the strainer is after the raw water pump, this, to my mind is "sub optimal" :) It should be before where it can at least try to keep the bigger chunks of "minerals" from eating your impeller.

"Owning a boat is:
1) never wondering what to do with a spare dollar or minute.
2) a gateway to unequaled experiences
3) an opportunity to always learn...just one more thing."

"Robert, since he mentioned "cap and strainer", I presumed that this was one of the OHC 4's.
If equipped with this strainer, they are down stream of the pump, so yes.... it would catch any impeller pieces."

"Ricardo, wrote down that list and already researching. I removed the impeller to replace and most of the blades are missing. Installed and placed the water muffs and we are good again. No overheating. Thanks for the help. Did not expect this much assistance. Ya will hear back from me
