Port engine running rough

Hi team, I’m back.

Question: I have one battery for the Port Engine, could that battery if not good drain enough juice from the alternator to run rough and not up to its rpm’s? :confused:

I ran the boat yesterday and it ran great for about 10 minutes and then back to the rough feeling and could not get it over 2700 rpm’s.
The only thing I did not do because I did not think of it was checking the battery.
I wanted to ask before doing it, the time it takes me going to the boat and back home.

I did everything that was requested in here.
Spark plugs
Wires
Dist cap
Rotor
New fuel
Fuel filters
Carb was rebuild
Timing checked and was ok
All electrical looked to be ok

As a general rule, a heavy load on the alternator won't impact engine performance.

Now insufficient B+ will drive some electronic ignitions wild; those are usually runs or not runs situations
 
Does the coil seem hot when it starts to run rough? That is probably where I would start if you are sure the gas is good.
 
A good mechanic at my Yacht Club said it’s most likely the secondary on my ignition or the coil wire that goes to the coil. He said I need to find out if it’s been changed from the old style with points or electronic with in the distributor cap. In either case it’s not hard to fix. :eek:

Have not done the secondary yet.
After sitting for a few days for the fourth I started the engines and got ready to go.
The boat ran great! Until I got up to speed, YES the port engine hit 3600 rpm’s and then 5 minutes into the run the engine started to run poorly again :(

I will make the changes and find out what type of distributor I have so I can get the correct parts. :cool:
